Pressing: to press the seams open or to the side. I will show you why this is so important to know.

Fabric manipulation; (yes you can nearly always make it fit, I can show you how to make those edges meet every time.)

Cutting: measuring with the rulers & using the mat for straightening the fabric before you cut can save you time and money.
